The disk filled up on the VM. We didn't have disk usage alerts installed - an oversight we are correcting. We restarted and cleared a bunch of space on the disk from caches and the like and everything came back fine.

Even though the main server went down, the mirrors faithfully served the checkin service, and we remained up across 4 failure zones in 3 clouds.
